I kinda started intermittent fasting forcefully, and for YEARS I thought it was a bad habit, but I rationalized it the same way most professionals do. Our ancestors couldn't always eat 3 meals a day. They just couldn't. Then I found out it was actually good for me. I can't *not* eat one meal a day now. I have 0 appetite outside of that. It's not necessarily keto, but it's a great way to achieve a ketotic state without having to restrict your diet as much.

I do the 16/8 window. Some go more hardcore and do 1/23 or 0/24. Also, its good to mix it up a little so your body doesn't plateau with one pattern. Throw it off with eating no food an entire day etc. I lost 5 inches off my waist in less than a week. Also, doing IF and keto, most people lose weight in their extremities first, before you start trimming in the belly area. It's the only down side of doing this. Your belly is always last to go #Patience is key.

Whether its "optimal" or not, I will have a coffee or two while in my fasted state and I still feel so much better than I did when I wasn't doing IF. Ultimately, listen to your body....so long as you're sticking to your "eating" window , you WILL benefit! Rhonda knows her stuff, but shes over complicating and potentially scaring people away from what I have found to be a very beneficial life transition. Just drink the damn coffee, you'll be fine.

It's simple, dont eat breakfast, can drink a cup of coffee it's fine. Lunch, dinner as usual, maybe even a snack in between. No late snack. Thats it. You can start by slowly reducing the amount you eat for breakfast and eventually it's a none issue.

Thank you Joe and all your guests for this. I started the year at 220lbs, 5'11''. I'm currently weighing 175lbs and I've never felt or looked like this before. I've lost some muscle but it's nothing significant, and I get away with eating like shit occasionally. It's the modern smart man diet, especially if you're living a corporate lifestyle. I've been eating like this for about 6 months and I can't go back, this makes so much sense. Breakfasts and multiple meals a day were the biggest lies I've defeated this year.

Just to clarify to people who have never done IF before, You NEED to start with a ketogenic diet and then slowly progress into IF. IF is MUCH more beneficial on keto as well. You also need to keep in mind you STILL have to watch what you eat. If you eat once a day and you're eating Ben and Jerrys', ice cream and fucking cake, then dont expect to lose weight or feel better. You still have to eat clean.

I agree with the woman 100%. A ten-hour feeding window is very feasible. 12 shouldn’t even take any effort. But the two-hour windows are a bit extreme. Any extreme diets should be approached with caution for most people.

Since the end of August, I have been doing 16 hr intermittent fasting pretty religiously, with some cheat days here and there. I only drink Propel vitamin water (0 calorie) and gum during those 16 hrs. I have lost over 30 lbs in 3 months so far (235 end - 202 today Dec 4th). And The best part is that I don't feel like I'm depriving myself of anything, because in those 8 hrs, I eat whatever I want: burgers, pizza, etc., so I'm going to keep doing it. This isn't a diet. This is just the way I eat now. I can't promote this stuff enough. IF YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT, DO IT.

Rhonda says fasting more than 12 hours is detrimental but then says a 9-10 hour feeding period is optimal, this leaves 14-15 hours of non feeding periods. Anyone else see this contradiction? Am I missing something?

Would love to hear somebody expand on cutting refined carbs out completely. I take it this means any bread, pasta, potatoes, starchy foods etc. Can you still eat museli, oat-based cereals for example? Do you cut the traditional carbs out completely? Re; Cheating on IF: I was on strict Keto + 18:6 IF for 9 months (Dec - Aug), no cheating... for the last 3 months I took a break by allowing myself to "cheat" a couple of days per week, plus my eating window increased to 8-9hrs. Under strict regimen I lost 80#... while "cheating" I maintained my weight, no gain (I allowed a few beers and some chocolate each week... that's what really missed!).... now back on strict regimen. Conclusion: It's good to lose more slowly and then maintain, switching back and forth until you reach goal weight, then go on a more formal maintenance schedule.

I think anybody could do a 16 hour fast or dry fast! Just don’t eat after 8:00PM until 12:00PM the next day. It’s not really hard. I did that automatically or unconsciously a lot! Just eat enough before the fast. That should be enough. I don’t need to eat after 8:00PM and next day, I wake up I’m not hungry until like 3/4 hours later. That was then! I make it 20 hour a dry fast Some days of the week now! Sunday’s 5:00PM until Wednesday 8:00PM, I do a 75 hour long dry fast. I just started my 75 dry fast like a month ago. Before that I did 48 hours & moved the dry fast to 51 hours during the whole year prior to this one. So right now It’s 75 hours & after that I do 20 hours of dry fasting the rest of the week and I eat in a 4 hour window! I do it to regenerate my system and detox.

I would argue that there is nothing wrong with eating carbs. Lots of studies have been conducted on life expectancies and the Japanese diet; which are primary comprised of carbs.

Daniel Zhao Deng totally. Different genetics and also it is high carb with low fat. High carb with low fat works for some. For me, my ancestors did not have a diet high in carbs, and it is reflected in how my body processes it. I don’t think any diet is designed for one size fits all. Rogan is definitely anti carb but he may have personal bias from how it reacts in his own body. Studies have shown Asian and Asian Americans are much better at metabolizing carbs and are less inclined to become diabetic.
